Medals, medals, and more medals!

Great American Beer Fest (GABF) judging is over and Ohio won 9 medals!  First to be announced was a bronze medal for BrewDog’s Elvis Juice. BrewDog is a Scotland-based brewery that recently opened their US operations in Canal Winchester, Ohio (near Columbus). This is a first GABF medal for BrewDog.

Next was BottleHouse Brewery and Meadery in Cleveland with a bronze medal for Spring Gruit in the Historical Beer category and a bronze for There is no Quad, an aged beer.

Masthead Brewery in Cleveland won their first GABF medal with a bronze for their Midwest Red IPA in the Double Red category.

Another first medal went to Brink Brewery in Cincinnati with a gold medal for their English style mild ale, Hold the Reins.

Taft’s Ale House in Cincinnati also won a first gold medal for Gustav, a Vienna style lager.

Fat Head’s Brewery continued their winning streak (9th straight year) with two medals; a bronze for Midnight Moonlight, an American black ale, and a gold for their weizenbock Alpen Glow, in the German style wheat beer category.

Lastly, Fifty West Brewing in Cincinnati brought home a gold for their 10 & 2 Barleywine. This is the second consecutive year for GABF winners for them.

If you were keeping track, that is 5 bronze and 4 gold medals for Ohio breweries. Congratulations all!

Ignite Brewing Co open this weekend!

Yes… Ignite Brewing Company in Barberton (600 W Tuscarawas) will be open this weekend. Friday, Sept 22 from 4-11pm, Saturday from Noon – Midnight, and Sunday 11-7.

The official opening of the brewery will be later in the year after their brewing system is installed. In the meantime, they will have batches made on their 1/2 barrel system to keep their taps pouring all weekend. Come on out and try their beers.

Microbrew Extravaganza is coming November 10th, 2017

Get your tickets now for the 20th Annual MicroBrew Extravaganza t0 benefit Circle Health Services (formerly Free Clinic of Cleveland) at Ariel International Center. Held this year on November 10th, there’s still time to get tickets. It is a special evening that brings together beer enthusiasts and Circle Health Services supporters alike to sample regional craft beers and savor delicious pub-style food.  Brewers and educated pourers will be on hand to converse with guests about their unique offerings and brewing process.  Attendees will have the chance to win a wide array of silent auction and raffle items, enjoy live musical entertainment by “Abby Normal and the Detroit Lean”, and take in gorgeous views of Cleveland’s skyline from the top floor of Ariel International Center.  The MicroBrew Extravaganza is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our city’s nationally recognized brewing community while supporting high quality health care for those most in need. MadCap Taproom opening

The MadCap Taproom is finally open starting this Friday (October 7) at 4 p.m!   There will be seven MadCap beers on tap to choose from, as well as a refreshing Bent Tree cold brew coffee, and some delicious Taco Tontos Mexican cuisine. You can also enjoy playing cornhole and other games next to a view of the brewery! Located at 1422 Mogadore Rd. Kent, Ohio 44240.

New Belgium’s 25th Birthday

New Belgium is celebrating their 25th Birthday at Platform Brewing in Cleveland on Saturday August 27th from 3-7 pm. Ticket price is $25 and includes entry, specialty beer tasting, light eats, live music, and a good time! They are also celebrating the opening of their new brewery in Ashville, NC. New Cleveland Beerfest–Friday and Saturday!

The inaugural Cleveland Beerfest is almost here. Tomorrow (8/19) and Saturday (8/20) from 7:30 to 11 pm, 6:30 for early admission tickets. It’s a first for Cleveland in that it will be held outdoors downtown on Mall B on St. Clair Avenue. Advance tickets can still be bought if you hurry. Otherwise they are $40 or $50 at the gate. Your ticket gets you 25 sample tickets and a souvenir beer mug.

They promise over 300 beers and over 100 breweries represented, so get your tickets now at

Don’t let the summer slip by without attending a few beerfests; especially the local one that focus on Ohio beers. Did you check out my new map that has over 160 breweries in Ohio now? August 5-6 – Volksfest at Listermann Brewing Co. in Cincinnati.

August 5-6 – The seventh annual Columbus Summer Beerfest at the LC Pavilion in Columbus.

August 6 – The eighth annual Great American Beer Tasting at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.

August 13 – Chardon Brew Fest – on Chardon Square, noon to 5 pm. Features 30 or so Ohio breweries.

August 13 – Third annual Brewfest Waterfront District in Lorain
